PORTABLE PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE DATA LOGGER
This is a battery powered, self contained data logging device , suitable for Oil field applications. The unit contains an internal pressure sensor, and has capability for connection of external sensors. The device allows up to two pressure sensors to be read and the readings from these sensors logged to the local internal memory. The unit is configured and data uploaded from it using a standard RS232 serial link to a PC.
FEATURES
The unit is supplied with software which is windows based and allows the user to configure the input channels, data logging rate, and power save options. The software allows calibration to be set up and calibration of sensors can be carried out with the unit linked to the PC. The software will upload the data from the logger and store this on the local hard disk in a format suitable for analysis with Excel, Lotus etc. The user is also provided with information about the status of the logger, such as whether the unit is ready to start logging and also if the battery condition is good and there are checks to prevent accidental erasure of logged data. The logged data is stored with a structured file naming system to allow easy recovery of archive logged data.
The PL02 operates on either an internal sealed lead acid battery with charger or alternatively with four D alkaline cells.
The unit has an LCD display which displays one of the 2 channels pressure and temperature and also is used for determining its status at any time.
There is a button on the unit which will activate the display , and show the current readings and status of the logger. The unit also has an on/off button. On switching the unit on the display will illuminate and the loggers self test sequence will occur. The display will remain on and indicate the units status until normal logging operation is achieved and the display will then go out.
The unit will start up in operating mode and start whatever logging operation it has been programmed to do. When connected to the PC the software will instruct the unit to suspend logging operations and only service the serial communications. The data is logged to non-volatile memory within the logger so that there are no back up batteries, and data is not lost in the event of power loss during a log.
The unit has four data input channels, two analogue and two digital. The digital channels are designed to be used with the quartz range of sensors, giving pressure ranges up to 20,000 psi. The 2nd analogue input channel will supply power to and receive signals from either mV output or voltage output sensors.
The unit can be supplied with either an internal Quartz sensor, or an internal strain gauge type sensor. The quartz sensor is a true resonating quartz gauge with full Inconel bellows isolation providing excellent long term drift and accuracy.
The strain gauge sensors have quartz substrates with thin film silicone strain bridges.
Where high resolution, accuracy and very low long term drift are required the Quartz sensor is recommended.
The logger has 64K memory, which will store 6,000 digital channel readings or 8,000 analogue channel readings.
Using power saving options ( low sample rates ) the logger will operate for periods of up to 2 years, and the batteries can run the unit continuously at 2 seconds sample rate for 8 days ( which is in excess of the data memory ).
The unit has a connector to allow external DC power to be used to restore operation and to save batteries during test and programming. If a local DC power supply is available the unit can be operated using external an external power source. This also allows the use of solar or wind power for longer operations or permanent installations.
The compact case is of die cast aluminium and is sealed to IP65, which will resist moisture and dust and most common fluids. The electronics are mounted in special shock absorbent mounts which allow the unit to survive severe shock and vibration.
The connections to the unit are made using sealed connectors. These connectors maintain the sealing of the case with the use of sealed connector covers, or sealed mating connectors.
Where D cells are used as the battery source the unit will have to be opened to allow the batteries to be changed. The sealed lead acid battery type does not require to be opened in normal use.
